Studio 75 was founded in Haggerston, East London by Nazir Tanbouli - www.nazirtanbouli.com and Gillian McIver www.artsite.org.uk. Located in Shoreditch, East London, the centre of the biggest artist community in Europe, the Studio was intended as an art hub and cultural and artistic space for the local community.
Studio 75 was founded to reinvigorate and renew the definition of "artist-run." We are dedicated to exploring the relationship between artwork, artist and audience
Studio 75 does not stand for any particular style, criteria or school of thinking, but operates away from the requirements of established structures, commercial concerns, academia and fashions in art and mass media.
Studio 75 London was active for two and a half years, until the building was demolished as part of the East London regeneration. In this time we hosted 30 exhibiting artists and 22 film-makers, in exhibitions, screenings, artist exchanges, mini-lectures and debates, and mini-residencies as well as mural projects, and was featured in London and international media coverage during the 2012 Olympics. We were awarded the University of the Arts London’s 2012 Creative Enterprise Award, for Most Enterprising Project.
Our purpose is to make places for artists regardless of age, practice, background or education, to share, collaborate and exhibit their work and for ordinary people and local communities who are not usually involved in art and culture to get involved and meet.
Studio 75 is a non-profit, self-funded, non-commercial venture. All projects are initiated by agreement. All agreement and selection is by the Studio 75 collective.
** IMPORTANT Studio 75 does not curate exhibitions for artists. We invite artists with whom we would like to work. Please do not approach us with emailed requests for representation or to ask us to curate a show for you.
